LDS Story Makers

This weekend I had the pleasure of going to the LDS Story Maker's Conference, a two-day conference held at the Provo Marriott with nearly 500 attendants.

I had no idea it was that big!

Classes were taught by seasoned authors, New York agents (Laura Rennert and Nephele Tempest), and an editor from Random House. I showed up too late to the game to sneak a pitch session or enter any of the contests, but I did get to meet writers I've only known online. And the best part? They're all finding success! The group I spent most of my time with consisted of authors you'll see coming up in the next year or so. Suzette Saxton and Bethany Wiggins both have agents, while Elana Johnson won the Most Rejected award, for receiving nearly 200 rejection letters before hearing good news. Another author, Kimberley Griffiths Little is having her book, The Healing Spell, released by Scholastic on July first.

All of us write for YA--which is what I'll be writing in the national market, in case you didn't know that's my career trajectory.

Great event, though! I highly recommend attending next year. I think I'll be there

  4. Thanks! And ditto! :) It's so great to see the diversity of writers out there. And best of all, it opens me up to other genres!
