I'm Just in the Mood

For some reason, I'm just in the mood to give something away. Maybe it's the season. Who knows?

Either way, I think I'll give away one of the books I recommend on this site. And while I love "Save the Cat," "On Writing" happens to be handier, so that's what's on the table here.

A FREE copy of "On Writing," by Stephen King (Mass market, as pictured above). An awesome memoir from a successful and prolific author. All followers are eligible, and to make this super simple, I'm just going to pick a number... Okay, that's harder than it sounds, so I'm just going to add up all the digits on the Kay'sVille barcode.

*adds numbers*

And the magical number is 106. Kind of high, but there you are. The US resident who posts the 106th comment on this thread (who is also a follower) WINS!

No real rules. You can post every comment if you would like, or just one. Doesn't matter. But in the end, the one in with the 106th position will win :)

Ready? Set? Go!

  2. You got it! And yes, my comments contribute to the final tally :)

    ReplyDelete
  3. Is is sad that I've never read a Stephen King book? Failllllllll.

    ReplyDelete
  4. lol I don't know if I can keep on writing comments without me being blocked as spam XD

    ReplyDelete
  5. I've read a Stephen King book, although I chose the WRONG one to start out with.

NOTE TO READERS: Gerald's Game is not Stephen King's best book... just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Interesting point. How many times can you comment before you're considered a spammer? Anyone know the answer to that?

    ReplyDelete
  7. 106th??? Let's just add those three numbers up... (adding) - 7. That sucks. According to my regulated rules, you won your own contest. That's so dirty.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'd love to win the book, but I think I posted too early. I'll have to check back later . . .

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yeah, Stephanie. Check back. And feel free to add a comment every time you do :) I'm sure the winner will thank you... or perhaps you will thank yourself ;P

    ReplyDelete
  10. Bump. Moving the number up.
    Higher and higher it climbs,
    and yet,
    we're still so far behind.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Spam spam :) I think I know what I'm going to do with my snow day.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I have Four Past Midnight sitting on my shelf. I probably won't have time to get to it until.... summer lol.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh this is such a bad idea, lol I so hope I'm the 106th post though (not this one but later on)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm going to post again :) I was recommended this book during a NaNoWriMo grouping, so really would like to read it :D

    ReplyDelete
  15. And because I am procrastinating from cleaning the apartment, lets add another comment, lol

    ReplyDelete
  16. Decided to read the comments already posted... I think I have only read 2 of Stephen Kings books: Cujo and Misery.... I'm not sure if I could read them again now.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't remember who, but I feel like someone recommended this book through some NaNoWriMo related thing too lol.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sooooo.... ummmm... what you writing now? Anything just for fun?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Why hello there April X :) How are you?

    ReplyDelete
  20. April, are you a published writer or just like doing NaNoWriMo?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Does anyone else laugh at the capache words that are used? I have to wonder sometimes at what the hell is going on with those words (or non-words for that matter)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Someone better thank me for adding so many comments and if I get banned for spamming I am going to be very upset!

    ReplyDelete
  23. 106 minus 25 is 81 more posts... 80 after this one

    ReplyDelete
  24. Come on peeps, I don't want to be the only one posting!

    ReplyDelete
  25. If someone is sitting there and just refreshing the screen and waiting till the 105th comment is posted I am going to come through here and smack them... hmmmm... although that isn't a bad idea, although it may take a while they way this place is so quiet

    ReplyDelete
  26. ok, last post for a bit, going to go do dishes and then come back

    ReplyDelete
  27. ok, that didn't take me all that long, but still no one else posted! come on!

    ReplyDelete
  28. By the way, my kitties say that I should win ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. hmmmm cold tosies... need socks on them now :D It is such a pretty day out too!

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Chelsea- Sounds like you've got smart kitties. And one thing I learned from Stephen King for sure, is never, ever use the word "dustbunnies" during one of your climactic supposedly terrifying scenes.

It's a mood killer... Then again, if you WANT to kill the mood, it is absolutely perfect :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. You have a smart idea, though, Chelsea. This is a great spot for some Q&A. No better way to raise the count.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why 106th? Why not 35? I don't understand.

    ReplyDelete
  33. They are pretty smart kitties :D although sometimes they don't like to show it

    ReplyDelete
  34. As for dustbunnies, it could work perfectly if you are doing a comical story :) It just doesn't work very well in drama type of stories (or any story that is not just comedy wreaked)

    ReplyDelete
  35. You plan to run 106 marathons in your lifetime?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Rachael, it was what the Kay'sVille barcode added up to is what she said in the post :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. You'll write 106 books? No wait, make that romances.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you have 106 of anything? I am probably over that in books

    ReplyDelete
  39. "Why 106th? Why not 35? I don't understand."

Rachael, how is it possible to be funny at all times. I don't understand, but I would like to learn...

    ReplyDelete
  40. ooo I like the write 106 books, although that is quite the challenge (even with romances)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hahaha! Thanks, Chelsea. Next time I'll read more carefully. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think it is physically possible to be funny all the time, but it is a challenge one could always work on :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm sure you were just trying to get to the posting part and skimmed the actual post :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. And yes, Chelsea, the dustbunny reference did indeed turn the drama to humor. To this day, if I'm reading something tense, my mind thinks "and then the key fell among the dustbunnies."

That's not a direct quote, I don't think, but it does the trick every time. Books never scare me now. lol

    ReplyDelete
  45. wooohooo that is 48... we are getting there :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. hehehe... I was into horror more when I was a kid but becoming an adult I have seen too many horrors on TV :( I wish I was more innocent to enjoy the horrors again

    ReplyDelete
  47. Totally close. We need some bumpers. Any bumpers out there?

I think the next giveaway I'll have people pick who they think should get the prize. Anyone can vote and the person who gets the most votes wins.

    Ooooh. Fun!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Uh oh, did we loose Rachael? Come back!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Whatever, Sheralyn. You take the cake on being funny, nice, brilliant, and beautiful. And the fact that you also know martial arts . . . well, who can compete with that?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Chelsea, yeah, I like the 106 books too. That's actually my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  51. you know martial arts? What practice?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Nothing says challenge like writing 106 books in your lifetime :D

    ReplyDelete
  53. we are past the half way mark... weeeeeeee

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Rachael, I assure you there are many martial artists who would LOVE to compete with that. But I accept your grandiose visions of me and will cling to them as long as possible. lol

    ReplyDelete
  55. Kenpo. And 106??? I'm ambitious, but who do you think I am? Nora Roberts?

    That said... an interesting challenge...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Saw you are reading Wizard's First Rule that is a VERY good book, but I couldn't complete the series :(

    ReplyDelete
  57. You would vote for 106 books...

4 down, 102 to go. Gosh. I'm almost there...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Very good then. My work here is done. I'm off to make dinner.

But I will be back. Mwahahaha (How exactly do you do that evil laugh, Sheralyn? It seems to come so easy for you. :))

    ReplyDelete
  59. Wasn't a challenge to you exactly, I think we decided it was a challenge in of itself :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. What made you drop the series? I'm reading it with a very specific purpose, so I LOVE input!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. @Rachael- The trick to inborn evil laughter: being born on Halloween. I have no proof of this, but I'm certain it helps...

    ReplyDelete
  62. My husband used to practice Kenpo, but he hasn't done it for a while... I think he should restart, he always enjoyed it. I just want to do a kickboxing class

    ReplyDelete
  63. I got to like the fourth or fifth book and it was practically all politics and I just cannot keep awake when reading about politics. I could probably do it now but when I was a teen I just couldn't

    ReplyDelete
  64. LOL! :) Good luck, Chelsea! I'd definitely vote for you!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Halloween probably helps, although I think you have to be a certain personality to also have a good wicked laugh

    ReplyDelete
  66. Woohoo Thanks Rachael :) Hope dinner is scrumptous :D

    ReplyDelete
  67. I miss practicing, too. And I especially miss teaching cardio kickboxing. Never been in better shape in my life.

    *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yes, you must have a diabolical twinkle in the eye that let's people know you really mean it. >:D

    ReplyDelete
  69. Girl, you're getting WAY close! Whoever's hiding in the shadows better poke their head out now... just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I agree... if anyone is sitting there refreshing i am going to hurt them if they post as the final post

    ReplyDelete
  71. I liked the kickboxing more than the martial arts because I hated actually having to test for a belt of any sort

    ReplyDelete
  72. Well, if anything if I get banned for spamming we will know the number lol

    ReplyDelete
  73. 25 more posts to go after this one :D

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hmmmm... it is almost 2P here... I missed lunch :( What should I have?

    ReplyDelete
  75. So I am going to start a new blog up at some point... not sure what to write yet though

    ReplyDelete
  76. It wont' be my first blog, but all my other blogs are so far spaced out and I rarely look at them anymore... so I am condensing them all, getting rid of the sites and going to start a new one and maybe use some of my old posts.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I wish I had input on what kind of blog to do. I always thought it would be fun to be the ADD Book reviewer. Just say how far I got into a book before I lost interest, how much I sped read, and what I liked.

That would be fun, if I didn't have to be consistent. lol

    ReplyDelete
  78. A lot of blogs I have seen are very similar to journal type of writing though and that is not what I want. I have a journal for that sort of thing.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I was actually thinking of maybe doing book critiques since I am so particular when I am reading a book. If I start critiquing during reading, it may work

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'd say go niche. Another fun site for me would be a spoiler site. I love spoilers. They don't ruin a thing for me. I actually enjoy the road more when I know where I'm going... maybe that's a writer thing...

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm too embarrassed to write in my own journal, not to mention post it for all the world. I think those people are totally brave.

    Just sayin'

    ReplyDelete
  82. There are certain books that I love to re-read because I know where it is going, but there are some that I just can't do that with.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I was reading some of the "Journal" type of entries I had on Live Journal when I was a teen and I am grimacing for all the people that read them... I'm surprised I didn't loose more friends

    ReplyDelete
  84. Oh, yeah. There are definitely books I re-read, thinking, "How'd they do that? I know exactly where I'm going, but I still LOVE the ride--and I've been on it 10 times."

    ReplyDelete
  85. what happens if your reply is the 106th comment?

    ReplyDelete
  86. My dog DESPERATELY wants to go to the dog park before I run away for the night.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'll bow out now so that my comment isn't. It's all you, girl!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I love re-reading some books and finally getting a joke or seeing a foreshadowing that I had no clue about

    ReplyDelete
  89. hahaha... You and I will need to chat more on Twitter or something :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. God, nobody better come out of the wood works now... I'm goin' for it :D

    ReplyDelete
  91. This is sort of going to be anti-climatic with just me... but at least I won't have to worry, lol

    ReplyDelete
  92. I am going to laugh if all of a sudden I can't post the last comment due to getting banned for spam though

    ReplyDelete
  93. WOOOOOHOOOOO! this is actually 107 :D

    ReplyDelete
  94. And my work here is done, lol... should probably clean this apartment now :D

    ReplyDelete
  95. Woohoo! Girl, you EARNED this book today! Send me your info and you will soon be the proud, new owner of "On Writing" by Stephen King.

Rock on, and thanks for playing :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. Congrats Chelsea! I am jealous of your endurance lol XD Dang, this is what I get for studying *headsmack*

    ReplyDelete
  97. Seriously. No one can call this win "luck."

Enjoy, Chelsea. And maybe next time, April :)
